CritterOps — Privacy Policy

Last updated 27 September 2026

CritterOps monitors humane rodent traps and alerts you when one is triggered. This policy describes exactly what the app collects and why. It is deliberately short, because the app collects very little.

What we collect

What we do not do

How the data is used

Everything listed above is used to operate the app: signing you in, showing the state of your traps, sending you an alert when a trap is triggered, and recognising whether an animal is present in a captured image. None of it is used for advertising, and none of it is sold.

Automated image recognition

Images captured by your traps are processed automatically to judge whether an animal is present, so an alert can say what it found. This processing looks for animals. It does not perform face recognition and is not used to identify people.

Some images are also used to improve that recognition over time. Before an image is used this way it is anonymised: a copy is stored under a random identifier with the link to your account, your trap and the original capture time removed, and with any embedded file metadata stripped. What remains is a picture of the inside of a trap that cannot be traced back to you — by us or by anyone else.

Where it is stored

Trap data and images are stored on the MouseTrap server tied to your account, and are transmitted over an encrypted connection (HTTPS/TLS). Anonymised training copies are held separately, with no reference to your account.

Retention and deletion

Captured images remain in the app until you delete them, or until the trap replaces them as its own storage fills.

You can delete your account at any time from Settings › Delete Account in the app. Doing so permanently removes your sign-in and profile, every trap paired to your account, all captured images and alert history, and your emergency contacts and notification settings. It cannot be undone, and your traps will need to be set up again from scratch.

Anonymised training copies are not removed, because there is nothing left in them that identifies you or connects them to your account. That severance is done before the copy is made, not promised afterwards. If you would prefer we not use your images this way at all, contact us at the address below.

Children

CritterOps is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated date above will change and the revised policy will be posted at this address.
